Kids enjoying eclairs at the house |
Our large comfy house in the Dordogne was nothing short of paradise. Our busy agenda included swimming in the heated pool, playing soccer on the lawn, watching fogs jump in the pond in the garden, enjoying a glass of wine (or apple juice for the under age crowd) and some local cheeses on the patio, sampling assorted French pastries, or just gazing out out at the cows and the surrounding countryside. Perhaps the most memorable moment was a fabulous four-course dinner under the open sky, prepared by a local professional chef (Dmitry) whom we hired to come to the house for the evening. All in all, our week in Dordogne may well have been the most restful time of our entire yearlong journey.
Of course, we did manage to get off our collective "derriere" to do some sightseeing. The following two posts will cover our touring during the week. But like our time at the house, this is a lazy post. Here are some pictures of our extended crew at the abode, as well as some shots from the closest towns - Berbiguières, a tiny hamlet with a population of 180 (at least according to Wikipedia - we didn't see a single resident); Meyrals, a booming commercial center at nearly four times that size; and St. Cyprien, a vast metropolis with 1,600 people.
Several times since we left, our kids have asked us when we can go back to the French house in the country. That's a very good question.
